Weekend jazz

We are heading into the first weekend of LL '09! Where everyone is headed:
  • Muriel, Nicki, Angie, Ethan, Jeff, Kelsey, Christina, Mal, Emma, Alison: Paris
  • Ros and Jenny: Scotland
  • Myself, Emily, Charlotte, (maybe Mike?): Bath and the Cotswolds
  • Prof Williams and company: Berlin
  • Perry: Aunt Angie's house

I have a feeling we will be hearing about some adventurous weekends on Monday!

Chicago!

To start off our weekend, Emily and I decided to go to the theatre. Although we got blanked at the Lion King, we ventured to Chicago and were successful. We had very good seats and chatted with a fellow American traveler next to us. She was at the end of a two week whirlwind trip around Europe, and envied our chance to stay and get to know London.

Chicago was very good performance. It was definitely a bit more PG-13 than Hairspray, but still entertaining! Surprise of the show (Emily and I had no idea): the actor who played lying lawyer Billy Flynn was Jerry Springer! The sign on the front of the theatre (which we had apparently missed) said that tomorrow would be his last show, so we just caught him!

We took our sweet time getting back to the flats and enjoyed people watching. We were especially fascinated with a particularly heart wrenching goodbye of a couple separating at the Tube station... it was very very sad!

The masked man on the plinth in Trafalgar Square

The scoop with the person on the plinth is a new art "exhibit" in Trafalgar Square. Artist Antony Gormley asked people to apply to stand on the fourth (empty) column. They are allowed to do whatever they want, and the people change every hour. You can learn more about it here, and watch video of people here. Mike was going to apply, but the spots were filled through July already!
